This intimately cropped portrait of a young man reclining shows that he has just plucked several bloodied arrows from his torso.
I wanted this piece to fall in line with others of San Sebastian, as he is seen as an icon of male sexuality and homoeroticism, but gave this classical pose a twist by showing the saint reclining in a similar pose to Botticelli's "Mars and Venus" to show his grace and fortitude.
